The list of January 2013 new music releases prove it’s shaping up to be a Happy New Year indeed for classic rock fans. Some of our favorite groups and artists are kicking off the year with a bang, and though it’s not exactly “out with the old, in with the new” — this is classic rock, after all, so it’s more like “update the old, in with the remasters” — we’re still getting some cool stuff, headed up by a very interesting deluxe box set of Fleetwood Mac‘s masterpiece, ‘Rumours.’
The album won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 1977, and recently topped our list of the Top 10 Albums of 1977, with good reason. A note-perfect classic that marries uplifting pop-rock with lyrical anguish, ‘Rumours’ spawned a string of singles that continue to receive massive airplay today, including ‘Don’t Stop,’ ‘Dreams,’ ‘Go Your Own Way‘ and ‘The Chain.’
The new deluxe box set from Rhino celebrates the 35th anniversary of the landmark release with four discs, encompassing all of the music from the original album (with the addition of the b-side ‘Silver Springs’), a disc featuring 12 unreleased live recordings from Fleetwood Mac’s 1977 tour, and a disc of unreleased alternate takes from the album recording sessions. A fourth disc comprises rough demos and outtakes. There is also a DVD of a documentary about the recording of ‘Rumours,’ as well as a vinyl version of the original album. (How come the bonus stuff hardly ever gets onto wax?)
That sounds like it could keep us busy in January all by itself, but we’re also looking forward to compilations and reissues from Billy Joel, Elton John, and Stevie Ray Vaughan, as well as a cool Chickenfoot box set and a new studio album from Toto guitarist Steve Lukather.

Hi. I'm Bill Hoebee and if nothing else, our show is ORIGINAL. If you have nothing better to, do listen in the morning...it's kind of like a train wreck for your ears and mind. My hobbies include identifying shiny objects, short walks on the beach, drinking, and keeping my 14 year relationship with my imaginary girlfriend alive. My favorite movies are "Spinal Tap" and any movie that begins with the words, "Ernest Goes to..." I mostly eat grape ice-pops and pie. I love my family, friends, watching t.v., and most of all...being a giant smart-ass for pay.
Look out, you rock and rollers. I'm Loretta (that's Miss Loretta to you), a.k.a. The Big Punisher. My mission: to start your afternoon off right, keep from killing Hoebee, and enjoy the beauty of the Florida Keys. I was born in Brooklyn, NY, raised in Jersey, and checked out every state but Hawaii. My favorite movie is "Kingpin", I like travelling, laughing, working out, music(duh), hanging with my friends, movies, and driving my cab!(I'm a full time cab driver for Friendly Cab, part time radio personality) . I love my little dog "Scrunchy", and he loves treats!
