Legendary rocker Rod Stewart previewed the tracks from his upcoming album for a group of journalists in New York City on Thursday (March 7), and at least according to one published report, the record really is the throwback to his classic sound that Stewart has been promising.
Titled ‘Time,’ the album marks the first time Stewart has penned new material for release in more than a decade. He credits longtime collaborator Jim Cregan for inspiring that change.
“About a year ago, I was sitting at my house in England, and [Cregan] came around and said, ‘Come on, let’s try to write a song,’” Stewart said last October. “And I said, ‘No, I can’t be bothered. Those days are over.’ But we sat down, I started humming a melody and he took it away and sent it back and said, ‘Listen, this is pretty good,’ so I wrote some words for it and ever since then it’s just been flowing like a river.”
According to Billboard, the songs Capitol Records previewed on Thursday were an amalgam of Stewart’s past influences, with one cut reminiscent of his 1988 hit ‘Lost in You.’ Another song featured the type of Celtic instrumentation similar to ‘Maggie May,’ while other tracks called to mind some of his later disco leanings. Five of the seven tracks previewed were up-tempo, with two ballads rounding out the set.
No track listing has been finalized for the album, which is slated for release on May 7.

Hi. I'm Bill Hoebee and if nothing else, our show is ORIGINAL. If you have nothing better to, do listen in the morning...it's kind of like a train wreck for your ears and mind. My hobbies include identifying shiny objects, short walks on the beach, drinking, and keeping my 14 year relationship with my imaginary girlfriend alive. My favorite movies are "Spinal Tap" and any movie that begins with the words, "Ernest Goes to..." I mostly eat grape ice-pops and pie. I love my family, friends, watching t.v., and most of all...being a giant smart-ass for pay.
Look out, you rock and rollers. I'm Loretta (that's Miss Loretta to you), a.k.a. The Big Punisher. My mission: to start your afternoon off right, keep from killing Hoebee, and enjoy the beauty of the Florida Keys. I was born in Brooklyn, NY, raised in Jersey, and checked out every state but Hawaii. My favorite movie is "Kingpin", I like travelling, laughing, working out, music(duh), hanging with my friends, movies, and driving my cab!(I'm a full time cab driver for Friendly Cab, part time radio personality) . I love my little dog "Scrunchy", and he loves treats!
