Capt. Matt Bellinger has a love of the marine environment that began as a small kid growing up in the South. Summers were spent in the Low Country of South Carolina fishing and crabbing and exploring the tide waters. In Atlanta, Matt fished the many lakes, ponds and creeks that are found in that region. Fishing was the focal point for him to the extent that the name of his charter business, Bamboo Charters, comes from the fact that when asked “where is Matthew?” his Mom would reply “that he is down in the bamboo fishing!” The “bamboo” being a bamboo grove or patch that grew on the edge of his neighborhood and had a creek running through it. From baby bluegills to monster sharks and tarpon give him a fishing stick and just add water!
People ask “What is your specialty?” Matt replies “catching smiles!” Whether it’s taking young children out on the water for their very first fishing trip or for that matter, a grown-up’s very first trip, introducing newcomers to Florida Key’s fishing is one of Matt’s favorite specialties.
Family fishing charters are a very big part of Bamboo Charters! Start the family off on the right foot catching (anything at all) then start looking for the “one”.
Capt. Matt’s passion for the Florida Key’s marine environment is deep seated in his soul. This can be seen on any fishing charter that he runs on any given day. Matt will tell you “There is so much more to a fishing charter than just catching fish, there is so much that makes the trip memorable. It begins with introducing and educating my anglers about this very special and fragile ecosystem and ends with catching memories that are disguised as fish! The Florida Keys is home to the greatest fishing Captains and Guides in the world, I feel it’s my approach to the whole environment and relate this to my guests that make me stand out amongst my peers.” Come to the Florida Keys as a visitor and you will leave as a friend!
